a moment of pure feeling

a moment of pure feeling was one piece made up of two separate parts as a response to the specific industrial site. The exhibition was in the GE plant at Lansdowne and Dupont which was being closed down because due to a PCB contamination.

This was a site specific installation occupying two rooms in the factory and an adjoining corridor. In one room was a 16mm colour film loop, about 5 minutes long, called Men Who Dream. In the other room was the men’s washroom and the piece Marcel Loves to Dance, a jumble of copper pipes that filled the room. Water flowed through the pipes and sprayed onto a large sheet of glass that flowed down into a reservoir that replenished the pipes in an endless loop.

The work was a response to the materials and politics of that site informed by personal experiences of working in industrial factories, particularly the gendered relations that at that time were largely left unexamined in those environments.
