The Unknown Migrant

a project for Immigrant Movement International

Banner/Action by Rebecca Garrett with Kim Jackson

This piece was in response to an invitation by Tanya Bruguera to contribute a work to the Immigrant Movement International project on International Migrant Day 2012.

The work was presented at a Dec 18, 2012 Vigil organized by Migrant Workers Alliance for Change and Justice for Migrant Workers at the Chinese Railway Workers’ Memorial in Toronto Ontario Canada (map).

We started to gather as the sun went down on a cold windy night. As we waited, a number of people interacted with our banner, posing and taking pictures.

60 – 70 people gathered and tried to light candles. There were a number of very moving speakers and singers and Rebecca Garrett presented the Unknown Migrant banner and read out the IMI Manifesto.

Thanks to Chris Ramsaroop for his organizing, enthusiasm and inspiration
